Character Name: Justine Law
Character Series: Soul Eater (manga, AU)
Character Age: 17
Character Gender: Female
Alternate Universe
Canon Point: during the battle for the BREW
Background Link: Series in general Character summary
AU Background: Oops just a genderswap. Major world traits/history don't really change at all, just certain aspects of character personality.
Personality: Oh gosh where to start. Canon is super vague about motivations/actual history of this character that there will be quite a bit of conjecture involved.
First and foremost, Justine is incredibly religious. Incredibly religious. She dresses like a nun (and is quite possibly trained as one), talks about god constantly, serves god as
Specifically, the demon god Asura, who is the one infecting the entire world with insanity. It's unknown when this switch actually happened, though one of the other Death Scythes remarks that there are some unusual parts of Justine's background check. However, it is unlikely that Justine was a traitor the entire time, as she became a Death Scythe at the age of 13, and would have been in training for several years before that. It's more likely that at some point between becoming a Death Scythe and her introduction in the series, her loyalties began to become strained, and the awakening of Asura gave her a new god to focus her attentions on, though she did not openly express or act on her decision to betray Shibusen until after the battle for BREW.
She has some very strong sociopathic/psychopathic traits (going from the Hare Psychopathy Checklist), namely glibness/superficial charm, cunning/manipulative personality, lack of remorse or guilt, callousness; lack of empathy, need for stimulation/proneness to boredom, and impulsivity. It can also be inferred that she uses her position as a Death Scythe as a way of having a safe/healthy outlet for an innate sense of bloodlust. She is incredibly proud at her accomplishments and position, and highly confident in her abilities as an autonomous weapon. She's snarky and obviously enjoys goading her opponents during battle, through verbal and non-verbal means. Additionally, she has a rather strong misogynistic streak, viewing most other women as emotional, weak people.
Despite the negative components of her personality, Justine usually comes across as a rather bland, somewhat dense, incredibly polite young woman. Her expression is usually either blank or a soft smile, and she usually spaces out during conversations that don't directly involve her (and some that do). She has earbuds in her ears constantly, which blast out very loud music that prevents her from hearing anyone, which reinforces her lack of attention. Her speech patterns are highly polite, she talks respectfully to everyone she encounters, and is highly averse to foul language.
Changes from her male counterpart are mainly based in the way she presents herself. She's more soft-spoken than Justin is, and does her best to be rather stereotypically feminine. Additionally, being female just adds another thing to her list of "things that I have overcome in my quest to serve God wholeheartedly"/holier-than-thou aspects/reasons to look down on everyone else.
Overall, casual acquaintances will probably just see her as a rather dense, highly devoted to her god, and somewhat holier-than-thou nun.
Abilities: Weapon transformation: in Soul Eater, certain characters quite literally turn into weapons. Justine happens to be a guillotine! She can transform her entire body, but usually doesn't, and prefers to just grow blades or headlocks from her arms.
Soul Perception: Very limited, to the extent that she can be like "hey there are evil souls in the area!" Not able to pick up on finer details like personality traits.
Soul Wavelength Attacks: Ranged energy blasts, which can either be delivered in a straight line (Law Abiding Silver Gun, which is basically a massive energy guillotine that traps and beheads the target) or in a more dispersed but less deadly blast (Silver Gun Radiant).
Lip Reading: Because of the music constantly blasting in her ears 24/7, Justine has learned to lipread with perfect accuracy. It's literally the only way she can know what anyone's saying, which means that if you're covering your mouth in some way (a mask, for example), she just can't understand you. ... not that she bothers to tell anyone this. They should be able to figure it out, right?
Sample Entry:
[The clothing was unacceptable, and the collar even more so. The letters were informative, but they were the writings of a (madman? no, not mad) liar. It would be impossible, Justine was sure, for the world to be destroyed. God would never allow it.
She located her clothing (headphones as well, and those were the first things she put on, cranking up the volume), changed out of the skintight white outfit, and set off on an exploration of the tower.
There was nothing on the seventeenth floor but walls and blood and screaming. That was when she realized that ah, this really wasn't a prank. The sixteenth floor doesn't exist. The thirteenth is a cathedral, and she lingers there for a while, trying to determine which religion the space belongs to. She can't find any familiar elements, and leaves disturbed.
Eventually, she makes her way down to the kitchen, eats... breakfast? A meal of plain oatmeal, then goes off to find a communications room. A bit of fumbling with the computers, and she manages to get it working. Bite down the annoyance and smile. Figure out who else is here, who else escaped (of course, God is here, it would take more than the destruction of a universe to kill her).]
Ah, hello! [this girl has never known an indoor voice] I am Justine Law, the Death Scythe of Europe. I would like to know if there is anyone else from my home here, specifically those associated with Shibusen. If you wish to speak with me, I will be in the cafeteria.
